Racine Police and Racine County sheriff’s deputies worked together in a large scale sweep of illegal sales of K-2 (fake marijuana). The joint effort targeted 13 stores, and found K-2 at seven of those stores. The total estimated street value of the K-2 seized during his operation is $33,675.00.

Police caution citizens to never buy the substance, because it is illegal no matter who is selling the product. Some store owners have been duped by K-2 salesmen who say their company’s reworked formula is now legal. Police say it’s still similar enough to what was originally banned to still be considered illegal and highly dangerous.
According to the Racine Metro Drug Unit, the sale of K-2 carries a fine of $3201.00. The street value of K-2 is estimated at $15.00 per gram.

Blue is the newest family member to Corrie and Jon’s family. Here is the story of how the little one puppy was rescued from a kill shelter in Longview, Texas almost 1,000 miles away. The ups and the downs that his hu mama went through and the wonderful things that Andis Company did when they heard Blue’s story. (If you don’t have a smile or happy tears in your eyes at the end of the story I will be surprised!)

Here’s the whole story in Corrie’s words from start to finish!

Well, we finally got our baby last night!!! The trip, in total, took about 12 hours. It was long and arduous, but once I saw him, I knew it was so worth it. He’s so perfect and fluffy!!

My fiance and I had been preparing for a puppy since about June. When we put in our 30 day notice at our old apartment, we knew we wanted to find a place that would accept dogs. Once we moved into the new apartment, we decided to wait a few months to let our cats get used to the move.

Two Thursday’s ago (2-9) we made the decision to get a puppy. Jon happened to mention it to a guy at work (Keith H), and he said that he was going to pick up his dog in Chicago the following day. Jon asked him how he was getting the puppy all the way from Texas and Keith said he was getting transported up here by Pilots N Paws. Later that night, Keith sent us a facebook message filled with dozens upon dozens of transport and shelter links.

We were totally overwhelmed. I had spent countless hours finding out how I would get the puppy out of the shelter, where he would stay until he was transported, and how to transport him. There was so many high’s and low’s, triumphs and disappoints. Luckily, the people on the Humane Society of NETX Hopefuls- Longview, TX facebook page are among the most helpful, and kindhearted people I’ve ever encountered. I posted a wall post on their facebook page and was immediately offered help or advice and encouragement. Finally, I saw a girl post on their wall that she wanted to start “fostering” dogs, and I jumped at the chance. I sent her a facebook message and she agreed to take Blue in for a few days! When she asked where I was transporting him to, she informed me that her family was down in Texas visiting from Illinois the upcoming weekend, and that if I needed, I could have Blue catch a ride with them. I didn’t accept her offer at first, because I was banking on an offer to bring him to Chicago through Pilots N Paws. On Friday night, however, the volunteer pilot sent me a message and said that the clouds were too low that weekend, and he would have to cancel the trip. So I started scrambling! I had 3 other offers to get him up here, but decided to go with Jessika’s offer, to bring him up with her family.

After coordinating it for 3 days, we decided to meet up in Salem, IL, a 5 hour drive. So we packed up the car full of a whole days worth of food and activities for us and the puppy, and left! We met up with the people who transported him (Cory and Jamie) at a McDonald’s and the rest is kind of history!

That all being said, Blue wasn’t actually our first choice. Well, he was my first choice, but my fiance wanted a different puppy, a lab mix, so I decided that I would let him pick out the pup. The day before we went to adopt him, however, one of the ladies at the Humane Society told me that the puppy was displaying some very concerning behavior. He came in with his litter as strays, and they don’t trust humans yet, so they were trying to bite and attack everyone that came in their kennel. With 2 cats, and wanting to start a family in the next couple years, we decided he wasn’t a good fit for us. So we decided to pick Blue next. I almost feel bad saying that he wasn’t our first pick, because he’s so cute and perfect, albeit a little grumpy right now.

Also, I wanted to mention the story about Andis donating supplies. Keith is really excited about Jon and I getting the pup the way he did, so he was going around work telling people about it. As it is with any place you go, people started talking and spreading the story around. Somehow, the story got up to one of the head honchos, and they decided they wanted to send some supplies down to the shelter. They also would like for Jon, Keith, Keith’s wife, the puppies and I to all take a picture together so they can put it in The Andis Herald.
Anyway, that is the complete story!!! I’m surprised with how many people have thanked us for adopting. I mean, I 100% understand that there are so many animals that need to be adopted in this world, but to me, we’re not saving him. He’s saving us!

I’m so excited about Blue. I’m ready to make and accept a new best friend in my life. Jon is absolutely smitten with Blue. He’s so proud to be a dog owner, after having cats for 3 years.
