6 year-old girl suffers leg injury after being struck by car

lightOn 9-29-2014 at 2:53 pm, the Racine County Communications Center (RCCC) received several 911 calls of a child struck by a vehicle in the 2100 blk of Howe St. in the Village of Mt. Pleasant. The child was reported to be injured.

Personnel from the Mt. Pleasant Police and South Shore Fire Departments (SSFD) responded to this crash location. The first Mt. Pleasant Police Officer on scene arrived within 2 minutes from the time the call was dispatched. Additional Mt. Pleasant Police squads responded to the scene after loud groups of area residents started to gather and cause a commotion while the child was being treated by SSFD.

It was determined by officers that a female, 22 from Racine was driving NB on Howe St. in the 2100 block. At approximately mid-block, a 6 year old child had darted out into traffic between two parked vehicles in order to retrieve a Frisbee. The driver of the vehicle collided with the child in the roadway. The child was conscious and suffered non life-threatening injuries. She was transported to the hospital for treatment of a leg injury.

The vehicle driver was cooperative with officers. She was not injured. Her vehicle sustained minor damage. Alcohol  was not a factor in this crash. No other people were injured. This crash is being investigated by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
