City Appeals Court Decision on Union Contract?

It appears that the city is appealing the contract that (Police, Fire, and Local 67). Judge Ptacek ruled, “A contract is a contract” and that the contracts were signed prior to the implementation of Acts 10 and 32. The Union Contracts are valid. On February 4,2013 a copy of the Notice of Appeal that was filed with the circuit court on and the circuit court case record have been received and docketed on this date. More on this as it develops.   1. The Dickert Disaster continues to take it’s toll.

    County Executive Bill McReynolds: “But what the taxpaying public has to understand is that if we’re going to get control on property taxes, we’re going to have to cut programs that are not mandated by the state and that are not core functions of county government.”

    What Dishonest John discovered was a willing group on the Common Council, led by Greg Helding and Jim Kaplan, who were willing to spend lavishly on functions that are not mandated by the State and that are not core functions of government. He also dramatically increased salaries and benefits. I have warned people again and again that there is coming a day of reckoning.

    Dishonest John doesn’t want to do the right thing and cut millions off the bloated salaries and lavish compensation of salaried workers – and his contract with the Zoo is a disaster that should have never been approved – at least by a wise Common Council. I believe he is trying to use this for leverage – to try and balance the budget on the union public employees backs , WHILE he continues to spend on pork projects and to add more to his pork spending.

    From the court decision:

    This Court recognizes that resolution of disputes based on the law often do not resolve the very real problems of parties. That may well be the case here. The City is faced with the very real problem oftrying to meet its obligations under these contracts while working within the financial constraints imposed upon it by the provisions of Acts 10 and 32. Will the City be able to meet its financial obligations under the 2013 -2014 contract? Will the City be unable to meet its obligations and experience a budget deficit? If a deficit, will it resort to employee layoffs to meet its budget? Will Union members, recognizing the financial impact Acts 10 and 32 have
    had on the City and other municipalities and employees state-wide, consider a “give back” to assist the City in operating within its budget? Only time will tell. The judicial process remains
    available to resolve legal disputes that may arise in the future and to assist parties in arriving at settlements to resolve those disputes?

    Every time the City saves a penny, it spends a dime! Then that new project needs constant $$$$. The City budget is in deep trouble unless they CUT OVERPAID salaried employee pay and benefits by millions, and end the expansion of programs and projects. The City can’t afford Root Works and Marsupial Bridges and Zoos which have no return.
