Update from Humane Officer in Walworth County working with the Lakeland Animal Shelter..
Hi,I am Cindy Wrobel, Humane Officer for Walworth County and I work for the Lakeland Animal Shelter where these Danes are being held. The information that I have is that there are 6, males and females and all are in emaciated condition. They are undersocialized but sweet. If anyone is interested in adoption, please fill out an application from our website at www.lakelandanimalshelter.org. Thank you.
This evening at 6 p.m. (Saturday September 22, 2012) Six Great Dane pups were found on Sheridan Spring Road in Lyons. Concerned citizens contacted the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department and they responded, with the help of the Deputies and residents they were able to get all of the dogs safely into a van where they are now being held at the Walworth County Humane Society.
Witnesses/Residents report that all of these pups were severely underweight, malnourished and had visible sores on their body and feet along with some having what appears to be feces on their coats. Anyone with information as to who the original owners were that could dump a group of pups along with road in that condition is asked to contact the
Walworth County Sheriff’s Department at (262) 741-4400.

We know wo they are! Patricia and Sal(Salvatore Messina) Spring Grove, IL. They are still hoarding 6 adults and two new litters. We need to locate them and try and save those dogs before they end up abandoned or dead. Please spread the word that we need help for animal shelters and vet bills. Please address any questions to me directly if you are able to help and I can give you a website for any donations. Thank you!

They are very selfish and sick individuals who did this. You should see the other dogs. 9 are at Midwest Rescue in Spring Grove, IL. These people are up on charges which to me are a joke. 17 counts of neglect of duties by owner. Can’t wait to see what Wisconsin does with the defendants a couple (Patricia and Salvatore Messina who’s last know residence was Spring Grove, IL until they were evicted from the home for non payment of rent). These Dogs were Living in their own feces and eating it with cedar chips to stay alive. My heart just broke when I saw these dogs. I flew up from Atlanta to investigate these charges on these trash people for a friend. Some of the dogs (7) of the (17 )are being held at the McHenry County Animal Shelter belong to a friend of mine Susan Fioravanti in Erie, PA. They were actually stolen from her. My goal is to see that this couple get prosecuted in both states. (Illinois and Wisconsin). I will keep posting updates on these dogs and the Messinas as one blogger stated (sickos). You can not even imagine what these animals went through. Laws need to get tougher to protect these innocent babies. These are European Great Danes. All animals need protecting. We are their voices.

The Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake, Il will keep updating the story. There is a Security Bond Hearing to be held on the (Thursday)the 25th. of October. for someone to step forward to pay for the bills.
Susan Fioravanti is ready to pay for her 7. We only have papers on 4, but; we are hoping the judge will let her have her other 3 to keep the litter together.
We are working on fund raisers to help with the vet bills for the remaining 10 in IL and to help with the bills for the 6 in Wisconsin.
We have set up a Paypal account to help with these expenses.
We are trying all we can to help. We are getting word all over the country. If people want to help, they can contact us at Karliaandsiblings@gmail.com.
We named this after Karlia, because she is the puppy that Susan was led to believe by the Messina’s that she had died.
The Animal Shelter in Spring Grove, Il verified that she was dead.
DNA can prove that all 32 dogs are from the same litters. We are still trying to find out where 2-4 Adult Females are and 2 new litters.
Lets keep praying that your authorities will file charges in your State, because your laws are much more strict.
Thank you Readers and Racine Uncovered for your help in getting this story out. Justice needs to be served by the Messina’s.

This of course is Wendy Williams with the Great Dane Rescue Midwest, I am a volunteer and the rescue is in fact located in Woodstock IL as are the 17 dogs which were seized by the McHenry County Animal Control at the time of the Messina’s arrest. I just spoke with the Animal Control Officer located at the Lakeland Animal Shelter and to give to the Lakeland Animal Shelter do not contact the above address but please go directly to the site which is
http://www.lakelandanimalshelter.org
Lakeland Animal Shelter, does receive funding from the County but only because they are contracted by the county for certain things. They still depend highly on donations and are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization as is the Great Dane Rescue Midwest. The person above is NOT A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE GREAT DANE RESCUE MIDWEST NOR THE LAKELAND ANIMAL SHELTER…..DO NOT GIVE TO THEM THINKING YOU ARE GIVING FOR THE CARE OF ANY OF THE DOGS THAT ARE CURRENTLY HELD IN ANY LOCATION!!!!!

Hello Everyone,
As you can see my name is Judy Alger Best and I am finally able to come forward and give my opinion on this case. My name was mentioned by Susan Fioravanti-Weaver in court on the 29 of Oct. 2012. The Messina lawyer wanted me to stay quiet and I did.
I first met Patti Messina in January of this past year. I had emailed her about a puppy that she had for sale. That first phone call was 8 hours long with both of us asking a lot of question. I decided at that time to purchase 2 girls from the same litter. These were my birthday gift to myself which is in Feb. I am always diligent when purchasing a dog. Yes I was a show person and a breeder of Shetland Sheepdogs since 1980. So do know the gene’s that go into breeding the merle in Danes. I am the type of breeder that only has one litter every 2 years or so, just so that I would have something to carry on with.
Patti and I talked just about every day for the next month. I was so excited about getting my babies. It was nice that Patti and I were becoming fast friends and that I felt I could call her about anything to do with the girls. As we became friends we talked about our families our likes and dislikes. I learned a lot from her. She never told me bad things about other breeders at all just what line I should stay away from or which ones she felt would be better.
I drove to the Messina home, 11 ½ hours from me to pick up my girls on March 11, 2012. I sat in there dining room and played with my girls and a few other dogs that were out at the time. She asked me not to go into her living room because she had a litter of puppies that were just born a few days before. Her living room, dining room, kitchen are all one room. I could respect that for I would have done the same. We had waited to sign our contracts until I was down there. We spent time on this at this point. Her contracts protect the puppy first then the buyer and then herself. One of my girls is going into Show, so I must show her 10 times and if she cannot get her points she will be reevaluated and we both would decide if she should be spayed or not. My other girl is going into Obedience; she is a white and the love of my life, also my problem child at the same time. As anyone with children will tell you if you have more than one, there is always one in the bunch.
I was introduced to Susan Fioravanti-Weaver on April 28th 2012 to purchase a puppy from her. I was hoping to add some European lines. Pattie had already bought 2 dogs from Susan Fioravanti-Weaver Gemma Fioravanti Maly Smok and Elainia, Guistina Fioravanti from her G litter. We had many 3 way phone calls after this. I found out when my puppy was 8 weeks old that she had a split nose and decided not to purchase her because of this. Patti went ahead and bought her dog Ignazio Delle Demario Fioravanti from her I litter. I told her not too but she said she would buy him so she did. At the time Susan Fioravanti-Weaver had sold 3 of the puppies under a wrong sire. Pattie wanted her puppy DNA’d so that she would know who the father was. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver was paid in full for all 3 dogs in checks for $7500.00.
Susan Fioravanti-Weaver told us she had missed the breeding with Gioia Fioravanti Maly Smok and since Patti had not picked up Gemma yet she agreed for Susan Fioravanti-Weaver to breed her under certain condition. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver agreed with these conditions until the litter hit the ground. Patti drove to Susan Fioravanti-Weavers home so that she could be there when her dog had her puppies. I was on the phone with her the whole time plus on with Susan Fioravanti-Weaver. We talked until 1 in the morning while the pups were being born. For a few weeks before this litter was born Susan Fioravanti-Weaver asked Pattie Messina to Whelp Luizador Marquesa Fioravanti litter. Patti had Susan Fioravanti-Weaver bring Marquesa to the vet for an ultra sound so that Patti Messina would know that she was pregnant. When Patti left to go home she had Damario, Marquesa, Zoey a dog that was going to a new home in Lockport Il. Zoey was dropped off with Susan Viscum she was being re-homed with this person. Patti and I talked her whole way home as well. Her daughter was really happy that her mother brought her with her. During Marquesa pregnancy Susan though that she was not pregnant so stopped feeding her like she should have; when her puppies were born one pup was very small and Patti had a hard time keeping him alive. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver wanted pictures of the puppies right away. Patti did single pictures of the puppies on the 17th of June. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver wanted group pictures and Pattie didn’t want to do them so soon after the others. Marquesa was very upset. Patti gave in and did the group pictures the following day and Marquesa stepped on the mantel female and killed this little girl. Patti cried her heart out because this should never have happened.
I was to get a puppy from Gemma and Marquesa’s litter. We were all going to share dogs so that we would be the only ones with these lines. No money was to exchange hands on my part. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver called me and asked if I wanted Jovanna and that she would sell her to me for $3000.00. I agreed with this because I wanted a puppy from that line. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver stopped talking to me for awhile, I am not sure why. I did not get a puppy from Marquesa’s litter at all and was not offered one.
Patti and I continued to talk on the phone every day. My husband says we should have gotten married together. We would be on the phone for hours. At this time Susan Fioravanti-Weaver stopped talking to Patti a lot also. We found out why, she was placing Gemma Fioravanti Maly Smok’s puppies on full registration which was not what was agreed upon. This started a fight between the two of them. Emails and calls were starting to go back and forth on this. I even have copies of these emails. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver admits that she was in the wrong and that she had agreed to sell these puppies under spay/neuter contracts.
Patti was asked to take more pictures of the puppies which are up on Susan Fioravanti-Weaver’s site of Marquesa’s litter. If you look close enough the female and male mantel is the same pup. Look at their nose and then the same spot appears on the collar. Pattie was scheduled to go to Susan Fioravanti-Weaver on Aug. 18th 2012 to drop off the remaining pups. The week before this Susan Viscum had called Pattie to come and get Zoey. Pattie told her to deal with Susan Fioravanti-Weaver as Zoey is her dog and that she could not bring Zoey back to Susan Fioravanti-Weaver because she was traveling with Marquesa and her puppies. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver asked Pattie to find a rescue that might take Zoey. Patti and I then called Scott Rood to ask him questions. He told us that he was a licensed nonprofit rescue and that he takes in all big dogs not only Danes. We asked him if Susan Viscum had gotten a hold of him about Zoey. We continued to talk for about 30 minutes. We were just looking for information so that Zoey might have a safe place to go. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver has flown up to Ill. 2 times now for court, but could not go and pick up Zoey. She could not even ask her husband to stop and pick her up while he was travel through to go home. Zoey is spayed so is of no use to Susan Fioravanti-Weaver. To this day I have no idea where Zoey is.
On August 18th 2012 Patti Messina brought Marquesa and 4 puppies back to Susan Fioravanti-Weaver home. On August 16th 2012 Patti Messina sent an email to Susan Fioravanti-Weaver asking for all of her money that she was owed from whelping the litter. I was on the phone with Patti and her daughter on the ride down to the Weaver home. I did not talk to Pattie while she was in the Weaver home at all. She called me when she was on her way home. Her daughter was very upset because Susan and Patti had gotten into a screaming match. Patti was feeling very bad that she had let this happen since her daughter had seen it. Patti had left with only some of her money which was $2642.50 and this was deposited on Aug.20th 2012. They were to split the litter down the middle, Susan Fioravanti-Weaver was to have a puppy and so was Patti. Patti then refused to ship out the puppy that was going to Susan Fioravanti-Weaver’s friend Pam in Calif. until she was paid in full. Patti then decided that Susan Fioravanti-Weaver needed to be stopped. She filed 3 complaints with the AKC in September.
Patti was contacted by a woman by the name of Bethany in Wisconsin about her dogs and that she needed help with them. Patti agreed to help out with the 4 girls, but she had brought 5 more girls with her. She took in the girls thinking they were only 4 or 5 months old. She soon learned that she was over her head with them and contacted Scott Rood for help. If you can help find this woman it would be appreciated: She is about 5’ 5” tall, not skinny or fat, drives a Ford Win star Van hatched back door, metallic Silver to Beige in color. Her hair at the time was dyed Blonde so could be changed by now, she looked like she might be in her late 40’s. Patti picked up the puppies in Genoa City Wi. The first 3 numbers on the license plate are 136; she thinks but is not sure the last 3 numbers may be 928. Patti picked up the pups around 8:45 pm so it was dark out then.
As soon as the girls were in Scotts hands, Patti became this evil person. Everyone had her guilty before anyone knew the whole story. This became a feeding frenzy and some of the comments were pretty bad. No one thought to ask Patti or Salvatore a thing. Patti called Scott and left a message the following morning asking how the pups are doing and if he needed any help, I am available between 1 and 3pm. He never called her back. I was in the Messina home on Tuesday Morning of the 25th of September to pick up the 2 dogs that I had bought. When entering the Messina home I took off my shoes and walked bare foot throughout her house. I was brought up to make sure my shoes always come off also I do not wear socks at all. We talked for about 2 hours then I left around 7:30 am for the 11 ½ hour drive home. I had gotten some sleep in her daughter’s room with 2 of the Danes keeping me warm. I am still wondering why the County went into the home with haze mat suits. There was nothing there on the floors at all. Yes one of the dogs did go for a pee on the floor but she had just had her puppies and with me coming in at 1 in the morning took them off their schedule. And yes I know you all are going to say that I am just saying this because we are friends, but if it was as bad as you all say it was I would have gone to the County myself. All of her dogs greeted me at the door and welcomed me into her home. Not one of them was under weight at all. Her carpet was wet under my feet as they had cleaned it earlier. Dogs went back to sleep on the couch until I went to bed then some joined me.
If Patti was such a bad person please tell me why when one of her puppies that she sold became ill and the family had only had him for week and were going to put him down. Patti drove to pick up this pup and brought him to her vet. He was operated on right away and is now living in Danville Ill, with a great family. She fought for this pup to live and would do it again for any of her pups. This bill was around $900.00 and she felt that no amount of money was worth a life. This is on the BB site, the people thought she should have let him die and give them back their money. I was on the phone with Patti when the County came to their home. I didn’t find out what happened until the next day. But everyone on the Great Dane Rescue Midwest knew before I did and posted it. They destroyed her home when they went through. Let all the dogs run wild so that they would piss and shit where ever. They pulled cloths out of her daughter’s dresser and put them on the floor. Funny her daughter was not even there to make a mess and the room was clean when I slept in it.
I have only told you all about 2 of the dogs that Patti had bought off of Susan Fioravanti-Weaver. Let me tell you about Elainia. She is one dog that Susan Fioravanti-Weaver will want back so that she can breed her. Her dam Isolda from Valvasor Land (Santuzza) has died and she wants her lines to go on with. She asked Patti for one of her pups when she is old enough to breed. Someone asked if she was going to get these dogs spayed or neutered and that answer is HELL NO. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver also claims that Patti lied and that her puppy did not die and that it is the puppy in the County now. I for one want this puppy DNA’d. She belongs to Patti’s girl Lia. But Susan Fioravanti-Weaver also claimed on the stand that she had proof. Really, well can’t wait to see that, Susan Fioravanti-Weaver had Pattie bring the body of the dead pup back to her when she dropped off Marquesa. Her husband buried the pup on her property. Perjury is going to be the least of her worries. She has registered this pup with AKC…So how do you think they will feel about it??? Would you buy a puppy from this breeder who steals puppies from other bitches and then even the sires wrong? Danielle Job-Owen of the House of Danes has also said that she would take in some of the dogs from the County. She also told Wendy that she only has cats. What is up with that Danielle Job-Owen, your website is of House of Danes. You also purchased one of Gemma Fioravanti Maly Smok’s puppies and it is on Susan Fioravanti-Weavers site. This pup was to go to you under a spay contract not full registration. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver also threatens her dogs with a plastic bat. She had told both of us this on the phone. I have witnessed first had with one of her dogs that if you raise your hand the dog hits the floor.

You can see, by the weights of these dogs that they are all healthy and these weights are from Animal Control.
Let’s get to the dog Jovanna that is in Animal Control that I was to purchase from Susan Fioravanti-Weaver. When Patti brought her and her sister home, both girls were grossly overweight. Patti and I discussed Jovanna in depth. She had a sway back and we both felt that she would not be good for show and this is what she was bought for. Patti had gone to the AKC for all the registrations on this litter to be changed over into her name. Jovanna would then be placed into a pet home, spay/neuter contract.
Susan Fioravanti-Weaver owes Patti $3900.00 including expenses for Marquesa’s litter that she whelped in her home. This is the last of the expense that she owed to her for the litter. Gemma Fioravanti Maly Smok’s litter: Patti has asked AKC to reverse the registration on the litter and she has also asked Susan Fioravanti-Weaver to pay her all the money that she has made on this litter. Patti wants all the puppies changed over to spay/neuter contracts. The money that is owed to Patti is $27,000.00 for this litter. Susan Fioravanti-Weaver played up that she needed a new sewer system worth $12,000.00 then this went down to $8,000.00, then it went to $6,000.00. She said she ended up paying only $3,600.00. Also she had enough money left over for a surprise for Patti. This was she had bought another dog from Europe, Quinna vom Herstallturm is on her front page. The total money owed to Patti Messina is $30,900.00.
As you can see I have been involved with both of these women for the past year. If anyone has any question I will be glad to answer them. I will however not answer question that will hurt Patti and Salvatore’s case in court, so will answer these with I cannot because her lawyer asked me not too. Sorry but will not put them in any more harm. I do know that I will have people who want to send me some emails so I will post my email here.
Jdbest@gmail.com please remember that I will forward all emails to the Messina’s Lawyer.
Thank you.
