Police and Fire Commission President Passes Away

From the Racine Police Department…
Charles Johnson, Chairman of the City of Racine Police and Fire Commission, a tireless champion of public safety in our community passed away on Sunday September 30th, 2012.

Commissioner Johnson was appointed to the PFC on May 18th, 1999. He was reappointed to subsequent 5-year terms in April of 2004 and in April of 2009. Johnson was named Chairman of the commission in 2003, serving in this capacity for the past nine years. His volunteer service to the Commission spanned a total of 13 ½ years.

Commissioner Johnson’s commitment to this community, and public safety in particular, was immeasurable. Upon learning of Commissioner Johnson’s passing, Mayor John Dickert, Chief Art Howell and Chief Steve Hansen shared the following comments:

Chuck Johnson was a beacon of light for this community. He assisted in every way possible with the Zoo, our fire & police departments and more. Our city was a better place because of Chuck and he will be dearly missed.

Commissioner Johnson was an invaluable community policing advocate. From the donation of thermal imaging equipment for the fire department, backpacks for local back-to-school initiatives, to the recent donation of new canines for the police department, Chuck and Jen Johnson’s contributions to the community will have a positive impact for years to come.

Commissioner Johnson provided invaluable business insight and contributions to the fire department through his working knowledge of fire department operations. Additionally he along with his wife Jen provided the fire department with thermal imaging equipment that is utilized on every working fire saving lives and property through technology. Commissioner Johnson also had a keen eye for statistical analysis which allowed both the Police and Fire Department to refine and present statistical information in a way that was easily understandable, and relevant to the commission and the citizens of Racine. He will be deeply missed by all.
