The allegations of an inappropriate relationship between a village trustee and a municipal employee are now under criminal investigation.
Mount Pleasant Police Chief Tim Zarzecki confirmed with Patch Thursday that his department has been asked to look into the allegations against Trustee Sonny Havn.
An anonymous letter was delivered to Village Hall on Oct. 5 accusing Havn of ethics violations and calling for his resignation. The letter was forwarded to the village’s lawyers at Pruitt, Ekes and Geary, S.C. On Wednesday, Attorney Christopher Geary sent board members a response.
“Given the gravity of the allegations and the potentially significant ramifications therefrom, we believe it would be in the best interest of all involved if the Village Board would initiate an impartial investigation to determine the facts of the situation and, depending on what those facts are, whether any laws or ethical standards have been violated,” he wrote.

This is disturbing, to say the least – especially in the light of how MP Police Chief Tim Zarzecki’s arrest for Disorderly Conduct was swept under the rug even with an admission of conduct that falls under the definition of “disorderly conduct”.
” According to the wife, her husband got so angry that he spit in her face and insulted her. “He then reportedly knocked a bag of chips off the kitchen counter, and slammed a drawer so hard he broke its front panel.”

It is well known that Sonny Havn is not liked by other members of the MP Village Board – and that is OK – as long as they remain respectful and conduct themselves properly.
Instead – I have personally witnessed Sonny Havn and Tony Beyer get verbally attacked by Trustee Feest at a Village meeting where he tried to imply that some improper conduct might have occurred. The incident demonstrated NO CLASS. No improper conduct had occurred.
There has been a suggestion by some that unknown bloggers have been involved with this anonymous attack against Sonny Havn. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH. Bloggers have more ethics than that and use open public records as sources of information to bring the hidden area of government operations and conduct into the light.
I will withhold judgement until after the investigation – but if no misconduct is uncovered – will Chief Zarzecki be directed by the Village Board to attempt to find the anonymous letter writer with the same vigor they are pursing Sonny Havn?
