Drunk Driver Crashes into Swan’s Farm Fatally Injuring Animals

Three goats at Swan’s Pumpkin Farm were put down Tuesday, after an early morning car crash involving an alleged drunk driver. Police reports state Ken Swan, the owner of the farm at 5930 Highway H, said he woke up at about 3 a.m. after a vehicle veered off the road.

The driver drove through the petting zoo pen, fatally injuring three goats. The driver also drove through the yard, smashing about a large amount of pumpkins, drove up onto a deck, breaking a window in the party barn, according to owner Ken Swan. Several other goats were injured and they are monitoring their condition, Swan said.

Caledonia Police state that following the crash, the driver then reportedly tried to drive away, but Swan said Caledonia police were able to catch the driver down the road.

Arrested is Akhom Chanthavong, 30, of Milwaukee, for OWI first, inattentive driving, failure to notify police of an accident, prohibited alcohol concentration, hit and run property damage and operating without insurance. The man’s blood alcohol concentration was recorded at .11, according to Caledonia Police
