Drunken Mount Pleasant man tries to cover up the theft of a gun and other items from his brother-in-law’s house by saying he’s a “picker.” A 23-year-old Mount Pleasant man is facing charges after he allegedly attributed the theft of items from his brother-in-law to his claim of being a “picker.” James P. Fonk II was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Monday with one count of theft. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 12:30 a.m. Monday, Racine police officers were called to a home in the 1400 block of Villa Street after a man living there reported the theft of some items from his garage. The man told police Fonk is his wife’s brother and had been dog sitting for the couple while they were up north for the weekend. When the victim and police arrived at the home, they found Fonk sleeping upright on a couch with the gun, a Dodge Ram hood ornament, pigskin pouch, knife sharpener, vintage Coca Cola bottle opener and vintage safety glasses sitting next to him. Police secured the gun, then woke Fonk up. He reportedly told officers he’s a “picker” and the items were his.
