Suspect Apprehended: 14 year old Park H.S. Student

The Racine Police Department responded to 1901 12th St., Park High School, this morning at about 8:10 A.M. for a report of a “MacGyver” or “bottle” bomb located in the school. A 14 year old student of Park High School has been apprehended for Recklessly Endangering Safety and Possession of Explosive Materials and placed in secure detention.
On October 2nd Racine Police officers working at Park H.S. were alerted to a possible “MacGyver” bomb in a garbage can located on the third floor of the school. Officers located a plastic water bottle in the garbage can with a cloudy fluid inside the bottle. The Racine Fire Department had also responded to assist with the investigation and determined the bottle was not an explosive danger. The bottle was removed from the school.

Officers have learned the 14 year old suspect did not assemble the device correctly and the “bottle” bomb did not explode.

A “MacGyver” bomb or “bottle” is common household chemicals and items mixed in a plastic bottle which then explodes.
