Milwaukee- From the Milwaukee Police Department:
We are asking for the community’s prayers this morning for a 31-year-old off-duty Milwaukee Police Officer who was critically injured in a car crash last night. He had just gotten off work and was driving home when he was hit by a drunken driver going the wrong way on I-94. We in the police family pray for him and his family at this very difficult time. We know the power of the community’s prayers and support. MCSO is investigating.
Update from MCSO- Sheriff’s officials said a driver heading the wrong way caused an overnight crash that closed much of eastbound Interstate 94 overnight.
Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Fran McLaughlin said investigators believe a woman was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-94 near 30th Street around midnight without headlights on. She then crashed her car head-on into another vehicle.
Officials said the woman is in critical condition at an area hospital.
A Milwaukee Police spokeswoman said Wednesday morning that a 31-year-old officer was driving the vehicle that was struck in the accident. She said the officer had just finished his shift and is listed in critical condition.
Three lanes of the interstate were closed until 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
