The Mount Pleasant Patch is reporting that a suspect tried to steal $70 worth of cosmetics, not that there’s anything wrong with men wearing make-up.
No judging here if a man wants to wear make-up, but the suspect swears the cosmetics weren’t for him.
Jason A. Werwie, 28, of Mount Pleasant man is facing charges after he tried to steal make up from Kmart. Then, he also allegedly tried to take medication off the shelves only to return it with an old receipt.
He was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of retail theft, one count of bail jumping and one count of felony bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 7 ½ years in prison and $30,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
On July 13, Racine police officers were called to Kmart, 2211 S. Green Bay Road, after a security officer at the store spotted Werwie take $70 in cosmetics and stuff them in his pants. Werwie then grabbed two boxes of aspirin off a shelf and take them to a register where he tried to return them with a receipt he had where he bought the same items earlier in the week.
Werwie was stopped by the security officer outside the store and detained.
Werwie told police officers he was unemployed and had no way to purchase the items, but, he did have $200 in his wallet at the time of his arrest.
He will make his initial appearance in court Aug. 24.
