From the Caledonia Patch With guns drawn, Caledonia Police officers surrounded a home and blocked off a road for over an hour tonight on Royal Park Road just south of Four Mile Road and Erie Street.
Starting at about 5:30 p.m. Caledonia Police were seen walking around a house carrying shotguns on the north side of the road, according to preliminary reports and scanner reports.
A woman who lives in the neighborhood said her neighbor was angry that his electricity was being shut off and there was some type of confrontation, but she was unsure of the details. She also said there was a WE Energies truck parked around the corner.
“I’m not sure if they got him or not, but my neighbor told me that she thought his son came down to talk to him,” she said.
Another neighbor told Patch that officers told residents to stay inside their home and the road was blocked off until about 6:30 p.m.
Keep checking back with Patch. We’ll update this story as we get more information from the Caledonia Police Department.
Editors with the Patch do have calls into WE Energies

It is understandable that people will get upset when WE Energies shuts off their gas/electric service for non-payment – but this is taking it to extremes.
The problem is that without gas or electric – your home basically becomes uninhabitable. I counted 15 Legal Notices in Friday’s JT concerning people that WE Energies is suing for not paying their bills. I have been noticing that every month – so it means that many more people have fallen upon hard times.
Of course – those unpaid bills must eventually passed along to those who can pay – which means increased costs for those who can afford electricity and gas in Racine County.
IS IT TIME?
Is it time for the City of Racine and RUSD to reconsider those salaries over $100,000 and lavish perks and benefits? Can City Officials find a way to live simpler – so others can simply live?
Eric Marcus tried – and was made persona non-grata for his efforts…
“RACINE — An alderman’s proposal to review vacant high-paying city positions in hopes of finding cost-saving opportunities is dead.
Under the proposal from 2nd District Alderman Eric Marcus, positions vacant due to retirement or resignation that typically pay more than $100,000 in salary and benefits would be reviewed by the Finance and Personnel Committee and City Council before any hire.
The City Council unanimously approved the committee’s recommendation to receive and file the proposal without discussion on Tuesday night. Committee members previously said the proposal bordered on micromanagement, was time-consuming and would interfere with human resources duties.
The review could consider dividing responsibilities of an unfilled position among other employees or reducing the position’s salary, Marcus proposed.
City Administrator Tom Friedel has said the city already vets any position when it becomes vacant, including studying how cutting the position would affect services and waiting for months to fill such vacancy to see if a department can still function. He said there are about 150 city positions that are paid more than $100,000 a year in salaries and benefits.”
A question for you, Tom Friedel – Since you have failed to increase the tax base in Racine, continue to raise taxes on the remaining tax base, and have failed to create an atmosphere conducive to business – how great a percentage of income do you think people can afford to devote to City of Racine property taxes before they find it less taxing to simply walk away from Racine? That is what is happening right now. When is the tipping point? Are you concerned? Is the plan to “hope for the best” – get your taxpayer funded retirement – then get out? LOOT and SCOOT? That is the plan – right?!
It is time for ALL governmental units in Racine County – Mt. Pleasant especially- to come to grips with the reality of the 21st. Century and adjust employee wages, benefits and retirements down!!
