The Mount Pleasant Patch is reporting that two Chicago men remain in the Racine County Jail facing a variety of charges after they were pulled over for drunk driving and deputies found almost $70,000 in the car.

Racine County Sheriff’s Deputies found almost $70,000 during a traffic stop early Saturday morning on I-94 as part of a drunk driving crackdown.

According to a written release from the RCSD, deputies stopped a driver shortly after midnight because deputies observed him driving erratically on I-94. Deputies were out on patrol participating in an alcohol crackdown operation when they made the stop.

The driver of the car was taken into custody for Operating While Intoxicated, but his passenger lacked any identification. Deputies asked the passenger to step out of the car to help him make arrangements to return to Chicago.

They initiated a pat-down to make sure the man didn’t have any weapons, and Model 22 40-caliber Glock reportedly fell from the man’s waistband. The gun was fully loaded with a 13-round clip and a round in the chamber.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies allegedly smelled marijuana, and they located a backpack in the trunk that contained a large sum of cash. A search of the driver yielded $1,850 in cash, bringing the total amount of cash seized to $69,552. Both suspects reportedly told deputies they had no idea the backpack full of cash was in the trunk or how it got there.

The driver of the car remains at the Racine County Jail on various traffic charges. His passenger is also in jail facing felony charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed weapon.

The Sheriff’s office is not releasing the names of the suspects. This matter remains under investigation by the County Metro Drug Unit.

  1. I don’t get some people.

If you are transporting questionable things, wouldn’t you try to be trying to stay under the radar?

Make sure all your lights work.
Make sure your license and registration is up to date.
Blend in with the rest of the traffic.
Put down the bottle so that you can drive.
Basically, eliminate any reason to be pulled over.
