Our partner the Caledonia Patch is reporting someone dumped a 2-month old dead calf near the railroad tracks in the 8200 block of County Line Road sometime between 8 p.m. Aug. 3 and 8 a.m. Aug. 4.
And that’s not the first time one has been found alongside the road.
The calf had apparently died of natural causes, and may have died from the excessive heat, according to a report by the Caledonia Police Department.
A passerby noticed the calf about ten feet off of the road. Police talked with a nearby farmer, who told them that unknown people have been dumping dead cattle in the area.
Twow months earlier, the farmer told police, he found another dead cow about 300 feet from where this calf was found. At the time, he filed a report with the Oak Creek Police Department.
The farmer suspects that a Milwaukee County farm dumped the cattle because a rendering service had stopped picking up animals there. When the officer asked a person from the Racine County Joint Dispatch to call their rendering service, the number had been disconnected.
The Highway Department told the officer they had no place to bury the animal and the officer dragged the calf into the woods so the animal could decompose out of the public view.
