The Mount Pleasant Patch is reporting that it’s bad enough to get caught allegedly trying to steal a pair of earrings from Walmart, but when police also find bags of pot in your purse, it is really not your day.

A 19-year-old Racine woman is facing felony drug charges after she was allegedly caught carrying 15 baggies of marijuana in her purse while shoplifting at a Mount Pleasant department store.

Haley M. Kaestner was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Monday with one count of possession with intent to deliver THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. If convicted, she faces up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 10:27 a.m. Saturday, Mount Pleasant police officers were called to Walmart after Kaestner was caught trying to steal earrings by store security. When officers arrived and searched Kaestner they not only found the stolen earrings, but a bag with 15 baggies of marijuana inside of it inside her purse.

Kaestner told investigators she came to the store to buy earrings, but only had enough money for one pair, so she tried to steal another pair. She bought one pair and a water, but was stopped by security officers before she could leave the store.

Kaestner also reportedly told officers she got the baggies of marijuana from a source she normally buys her own drugs for personal use. She said the man gave her the drugs to try and sell them for him so he could buy better quality marijuana.

She told police she hadn’t sold drugs before and wasn’t able to sell the ones she got from the man, so she smoked a couple baggies worth of marijuana then tried to return the rest, but said she was unable to make contact with the man.

Kaestner is currently being held in Racine County Jail on $1,000 bond.
