Five charged in Walmart Thefts

As far as crime rings go, this one probably ranks pretty low, but in the end, five people from Milwaukee are facing charges for allegedly stealing nearly $1,000 worth of items from a Mount Pleasant department store.

Cierra S. Staten, 20, Aaron M Bell, 17, Josalyn M. Singleton, 17, Angela L. Staten, 35, and Sharon L. Taylor, 35, were charged in Racine County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of felony theft. If convicted, they each face up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On July 9, Mount Pleasant police officers were contacted by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department after the five suspects were caught in the parking lot of a Walmart in Somers with items believed to be stolen from the Walmart in Mount Pleasant.

Officers reviewed security footage from the store and on July 7, the five came into the store and several of them made returns. They then stole bike computers, pedometers and moderately expensive dog collars and left the store after buying several items.

The total value of the theft was estimated at $944.

Cierra Staten and Singleton each posted a $1,000 signature bond and will have their next court appearances on Sept. 5. There are $10,000 warrants out for Angela Staten and Bell. Taylor also has a $10,000 warrant out for her arrest; she served 30 days in jail in 2006 for retail theft, obstruction and misdemeanor bail jumping.

  1. You need to put a little fear in people instead of just slapping them on the wrist.

Less likely to steal if you know that there is a good chance that you will be paying for it one way or another.
