The Mount Pleasant Patch is reporting that 2 suspects call police after three men allegedly steal $300 from a purse, but end up being charged after officers find pills in their room.
It’s never a good night when your money gets stolen, but matters took a turn for the worse when the alleged crime victims got busted for drugs by the cops they called to help.
Two Union Grove women are facing charges after they allegedly had pills with them in a Sturtevant motel room after they called police because several men took money from them.
Ashley Annmarie Moorehead, 20, and Alicia A. Rushing, 22, were charged in Racine County Circuit Court Monday with four counts of possession of narcotic drugs. If convicted, Moorehead faces nearly four years in prison and $11,500 in fines, while Rushing faces up to 15 months in prison and $6,500 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
At 10:59 p.m. Sunday, Mount Pleasant police officers were called to the Days Inn Motel after Moorehead reported a theft from her room. When officers arrived they knocked on the door, then heard shuffling inside for several minutes until Moorehead opened the door.
Moorehead smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated and told officers she had met three black men at Iron Skillet early in the morning and had exchanged numbers with them. She said one of the men called and asked if they could come over, which she agreed to, but at one point she went outside while Rushing went to the bathroom and $320 went missing from her purse.
Officers were able to contact one of the men, who told them the women were snorting what he thought was cocaine while taking other drugs and drinking alcohol.
The women allowed officers to search their room, saying they had nothing to hide. However, during the search, Rushing stood up from a chair and officers saw a bottle for diabetes testing strips on the chair with an unknown pill inside.
Rushing said the pill wasn’t hers, so she was taken outside of the motel room where she pulled out a black plastic bottle she was hiding in her waistband with pills inside. She told officers the bottle belonged to Moorehead and she was hiding it for her because she’s on probation.
Both women were placed under arrest and taken to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, where Rushing told officers they had checked into the room the previous night and planned to have some fun for a few days. When asked what she was snorting when the men were there, Rushing said it was a Valium for which she had a prescription.
Moorhead told officers she wanted a lawyer, but then continued to talk and told them the black container was hers, but she had placed jewelry inside, not pills.
Officers determined the pills found with the women to be Hydrocodone Bitartraite, Alprezolam, and amphetamines and dextroamphetamines.
Moorehead is currently being held in Racine County Jail on $200 bond and $500 signature bond, while Rushing is being held on a $400 signature bond.
