First Step Starts Here-Be a Role Model

A sad thing that occurs in Racine on a daily basis is the future of a child being destroyed or given away. Every day a child in school decides not to try, or worse, not to even go to school. The child may decide to hang out with the wrong friends, join a gang, try drugs, steal or vandalize something, or a number of other things that start the child toward the path of crime, victimization, incarceration, poverty, and a general inability to succeed in life. It happens slowly and can easily be prevented.

How? Parental Involvement. We are all busy with jobs, careers, family obligations, and other things that need doing and sometimes helping our children gets pushed to the side. But where can our children go if we as parents are not there for them? The streets, that’s where. In order for our children to succeed, they need an education, guidance, and discipline. They can only get them from you at home and it only takes a few minutes a day. Talk with your child about right and wrong, help them with their homework, ask your child what they are doing, where they are going, and with whom. Being involved in your child is the best way to make a positive impact on their life and help them avoid a lifetime of hardship and pain that comes with the failure to succeed.

Parenting is a great responsibility and can be extremely rewarding if time is taken in helping a child. There is nothing better in life than watching your child grow and develop into a successful adult who makes the most of their life, but they cannot do it alone.
